Hope you're having a blessed day. You have a beautiful voice.
I discovered you and your music about an hour ago. I asked Google a question for something I'm struggling with as a songwriter. That finalizing rewrite stage led me to do some soul searching on "getting too attached to your song" habit I have sometimes. Your book was 4th on the list and that's where this connection began.
I plan on doing some more research on you and your music. From what I've heard so far is a blessing to my ears.
I do have a question. Have you ever struggled with rewriting a few lines in a song?
Thanks and God Bless,
Hello Ronnie, thanks for the question! A very successful writer once said to me, "great songs don't get written, they get re-written" & I firmly believe this. I am constantly going back to my songs, looking at them from every angle to see how I can strengthen them. I edit all the way up to a demo or recording session as my publisher can vouch for because after I record them, she'll listen to the recording to double check the lyrics on file & see many changes that happened the day of the recording. My theory is I always have what I started with & can always go back to that but why not try to keep improving it? I teach many songwriting workshops when I'm touring but have started a new type of workshop where only 6-8 seats are available & the students actually co-write with myself & Jerry Salley who has written many hits. This type of workshop offers insight into our process & can offer a writer a huge growth spurt. Details here:https://www.facebook.com/songwritingesca... Peace, Donna
I don't have 8 x 10's. I have a brochure with lots of pictures I can sign and mail you. Send me the info at email@example.com
Thanks Myra! We can't wait to return to Rockville also! See you soon!
Donna, no question just a thank you!. Great workshop in Kendallville at the Bluegrass Festival this fall. Well I am writing. My last one was for the 100th Anniversary for my church. They love it. Thanks again your inspiration and encouragement.
Forgive me for being so slow in thanking you for your wonderful message. I am so glad you are writing! It is so true that the more you write, the more the creative juices flow. Jerry Salley and I have started doing some very limited seating workshops at my wee farm where we actually write with the students to give them a real taste of co-writing with one of us. Rick and I cook all the meals and feed the students some good home cooking. It is a great way to "up your game" in songwriting. If you or any other writers you know ever want to try it, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Keep up the writing. You made my day to read that the workshop helped you on your creative journey!
Donna recently upon visiting with you after your concert in Eureka, MO> and gave you our business card from our Bluegrass Radio show here in K.C. I told you about one of our most requested projects of yours was the one with Whispering pines on it Hard Cry Moon . When we went review it and schedule our show 2 wks out we found the C.D. to be defective would there be any way that you would be kind enough to supply us with another copy. Buster, I am so sorry, I just saw this. I will have the record label send you another one this week! Donna
Thank you for the question! I have two gospel albums of mostly songs I have written. (Holy Waters & I Am A Child of God are the album titles. The only true hymn I have recorded is This Is My Father's World. I also have a Christmas album of all songs I wrote telling the story of Christ's birth from the perspective of each of the characters involved in the story. It is called ALL THE WAY TO BETHLEHEM. All of my other albums are of secular song, many that I wrote as well as some old country and bluegrass classics you might recognize. There is a link to all of my music on my website at http://www.donnaulisse.com Thanks so much! Donna
Oops! I am way behind on answering....LOL! Thanks Danny!
Thank you! I'll do my best! :)
HI Donna, my husband and I just got home from seeing your show in Kendalville, In . We listened to your All the Way To Bethelhem CD on the way home a couple times. It's very beautiful! A true work of art and a blessing. We especially enjoyed the way the stories intertwined with the instruments and your beautiful voice. Thank you for sharing Gods word with so many. We live in Valparaiso, IN and the drive was more than worth it . You and I spoke briefly as I was purchasing your CD and you so graciously autographed for me. I'm the appendix cancer survivor that spoke with you about 5 years ago, the one who was told she had 3 months to live 10 years ago and yet here I am still. I've been a nurse for twenty years. We look forward to seeing you and The Poor Mountain Boys soon.
Hi Suzy, Thank you so much for this sweet message. I am so glad you enjoyed the Christmas album. I feel it is one of the best things I have ever written .I believe I must have had some heavenly help because the thought of trying to tell the greatest story ever told in some kind of fresh way was quite an undertaking. I did a lot of research on it and spent many hours on the phone consulting with my uncle who is a theologian. This year The Poor Mountain Boys and I have some shows booked where we will perform the album from start to finish. The band members will read the scripture that inspired each song and then I will share some of my thoughts and give insights to how I approached the characters in each song. We are doing one of the shows in Rockville, IN on Dec. 2 which is as close as we will be to you but I hope you can make it. I remember speaking with you and am so glad to hear from you. We had a blast playing Kendalville and hope they will have us back in the future. Peace, Donna
